The American Booksellers Association, in conjunction with Objective Consulting,
makes the BookSense Bestseller List available for you to use on your own website,
subject to some
guidelines and limitations. This page provides some information about how
to use them on your site.
All the lists you see on our site have been generated from the RSS files that
we provide to the public.
We will be happy to work with customers
to tailor
the viewing components to your own website or to adapt them to your own specific
needs. Although this site has been generated using Java, RSS is an open technology
and will work with a wide variety of environments.
Remember that RSS feeds provide content, but very little
restrictions on formatting. This gives you a great deal of
flexability in how you wish the data to be presented or used. We
have adopted two different table formats for this site, but they are
entirely customizable - from colors to layout, the choices are all
yours.
If you are interested in making your website available through RSS,
or have other data that you wish to distribute in this or other
formats,
we can also work with you
to find the best solutions.
We can help you design your feed and make it available to the world
through a variety of common channels.
Since RSS is an open format based on XML, you should be
able to use an XML parser that understands namespaces to
help you parse the RSS feeds. We are using the RSS 2.0 format
documented at Harvard's
Berkman Center,
information about the Dublin Core elements are available from
The Dublin Core Metadata
Initiative, while the bestseller list specific tags are
documented in our technical specification
area.
